UClan Levels of Awards
There are five UCLan awards these awards are gained by progressing through the Rescue 3 courses and accumulating the associated HE "Higher Education Credits".
| Advanced Certificate in Rope Rescue Instruction | 60 HE credits |
| Advanced Certificate in Swiftwater Rescue Instruction | 80 HE credits |
| Foundation Certificate in Swiftwater Rescue Boat Instruction | 120 HE credits |
| Foundation Certificate in Technical Rescue Instruction | 120 HE credits |
| Foundation Degree in Technical Rescue Instruction | 240 HE credits |
Choosing an Award
Students don’t need to choose a target award at the start of their first Rescue 3 training course i.e. the Foundation Certificate in Technical Rescue Instruction. They can attend their chosen courses, accumulate HE credits and then transfer them into any of the University Awards.
University Certificate
A Certificate is offered to students on completion of an approved course of study such as a Swiftwater Rescue Technician course. University certificates are intended to recognise the completion of specified course/modules at undergraduate or postgraduate levels. Students will also receive Rescue 3 certification in completed courses.
Advanced Certificate in Rope Rescue Instruction(60 credits)
Similar in structure to a Certificate, however, this award offers a more detailed and advanced program of study.

A Foundation Certificate is comprised of 120 credits at level 1 which equates to the first year of a Foundation Degree.

Foundation Degree in Technical Rescue Instruction (240 credits)
Foundation degrees are vocationally focused awards, integrating academic knowledge and work-based learning. They are designed in partnership with employers and company’s to equip learners with the knowledge, understanding and skills relevant to their employment. This is a stand alone certification on completion of the course.
