Rescue 3 Instructor Program

 

Rescue 3 International has a curriculum for individuals who want to teach the Rescue 3 Water. Flood, and Rope Program within their departments or agencies. Instructor candidates may choose from 3 possible tracks.

Rescue 3 Instructor: Water and Rope

This is the most challenging course, but on successful completion the new instructor will be able to teach all of Rescue 3's water and rope classes at the awareness, operations, and technician level. This includes SRT1, SRTA, TRR:TL, WRT, and WRT2.

Rescue 3 Instructor: Water

This track is for students who wish to teach Rescue 3's water programs. These include the awareness and operations level courses. SRT1, Swiftwater First Responder, and WRT programs.

Upon successful completion of this track, the new instructor will be able to teach the awareness, operations, and technician level rope courses that meet the requirements of the NFPA 1670 Standard for the area of rope.

General Prerequisites

In addition to the prerequisites for each course there are a number of prerequisites that all instructor candidates must complete. These are:

  • Have a current EMT, Paramedic, Wilderness First Responder, or other pre-approved medical certification.
  • Obtain a recommendation letter from an active, non-provisional
    Rescue 3 Instructor.
  • Either have completed a teaching methodology course or have validated teaching experience.
  • Complete medical information form.
  • Be in good physical condition.
  • Have a strong swimming ability. (not required for rope instructors)
  • Be free from any chronic medical condition.

In order to accomplish the responsibilities of the awareness level responder, the course also provides students with a conceptual understanding of the principles, applications, and hazards associated with advanced water rescue techniques.

* A WRT course may be substituted for one of the SRT1 classes required.
