
Equipment Lists
Students are required to provide their own personal protective equipment. For questions or help in selecting appropriate equipment, contact your instructor or call us at

Water Equipment
- full wetsuit or drysuit
- lightweight water or kayak helmet
- US Coast Guard Approved Type III or V life jacket/PFD
- thick-soled water booties or tennis shoes
- gloves
Ice Equipment
- drysuit, survival suit or thick wetsuit
- US Coast Guard Approved Type III or V life jacket/PFD with quick release
- lightweight water or kayak helmet
- neoprene footwear with a good walking sole or running shoes that are a bit large to accommodate extra socks Note: winter boots do NOT work well as they get very heavy when wet
- neoprene gloves or insulated gloves with waterproof gloves overtop (commercial dishwashing gloves work great)
- layers of down, wool or fleece clothing for under the drysuit
- headwear including a thin hat or balaclava (pom-poms don’t work under a helmet)
- pocket warmers
Rope Equipment
- climbing or fire helmet
- leather gloves
- work boots, hiking boots, or appropriate footwear
- long pants or coveralls
- full body harness (sit/chest harness can be substituted)
- appropriate protective clothing for weather conditions
Tower Equipment
- climbing or technical rescue helmet
- leather gloves
- work boots, hiking boots, or appropriate footwear
- long pants or coveralls
- personal climbing or rescue harness
- appropriate protective clothing for weather conditions
Confined Space Equipment
- climbing or technical rescue helmet
- leather gloves
- work boots, hiking boots, or appropriate footwear
- long pants or coveralls
