Professional Qualification Workshop
There are two Professional Qualification Workshops (Pro Qual); one
for water and rope, and one for rope only. These workshops provide
independent verification of a student's qualification as a water and rope
technician as required under NFPA Standard 1006. This workshop is not
an instructional course, but rather is a place for fully trained rescuers to prove their competency.

Swiftwater Rescue Boat Operator
Swiftwater Rescue Boat Operator is a three-day (24 hour) course designed to
introduce rescue personnel to handling motorized boats on moving water.
The course includes one day of classroom learning and two days of hands
on exercises. During the classroom portion, students will be exposed to a
number of topics including:
- a review of the rescue philosophy in swiftwater
- the application of motorized boat in the dynamic swiftwater environment
- the types of motorized boats that can be used in swiftwater
hydrology
- basics of boat handling
During the field portion of the course, students will be shown commonly
used rescue boats, as well as gain experience reading the water and
operating boats. Basic boat handling skills such as eddying out, peel outs,
and ferrying will be practiced in class I-II whitewater. Students will then
apply the skills they have learned to up-run, down-run, and perform rescue
scenarios.

Technical Animal Rescue
Technical Animal Rescue This three-day (24 hour) course teaches students how to rescue animals without becoming victims. Topics covered include rescuer safety, equipment, animal behavior in rescues, and basic first-aid for animals. Communication techniques during emergencies and how to use ropes to maneuver a boat safely to the victim are also introduced in this course.

Ice Rescue Technician
Ice Rescue Technician This three-day (24 hour) course teaches students rescuer safety skills, self-rescue techniques, pre-planning for and size-up of ice rescue incidents, and rope skills. Specialty equipment unique to ice rescue is presented and the course also provides students with an understanding of ice properties, formations, types, and hazards. Ice Rescue Technician meets the requirements for ice rescue under the water section of NFPA 1670.*
